Welcome to Think Beach
Think Beach is CSULB’s first inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The program strives to provide academic growth, career exploration, work experience, and social activities while empowering young adults with IDD (Beach Scholars) to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become independent and productive citizens. In addition, the program offers these young adults an opportunity to experience life on a college campus while developing self-determination, independent living, and vocational skills.
|
Think Beach is a two-year program (four semesters), where
our students will partake in the following activities:
- Take two CSULB courses per semester and have the opportunity to choose some elective courses
- Meet with peer mentors who will help our students adapt to life on campus
- Attend independent life skills workshops
- Obtain work experience on campus
- Enjoy campus life from joining student organizations to spending time with friends at campus events
Mission StatementThink Beach is an inclusive, postsecondary education program seeking to support a self-determined and fully-inclusive life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that will lead to competitive, integrated employment.
|
Vision StatementThrough participation in college classes and campus life activities, students in the Think Beach program will increase their social skills, independence, and self-knowledge. Upon completion of the program, Beach Scholars will have the skills necessary to transition to employment and/or independent living.
|
The program has a cost of approximately $3000 per semester. Clients who receive services through the Department of Rehabilitation may be eligible for tuition reimbursement
